Dave Jones and painting of Supermarine S6b pictured with a representative of Avro at a recent Manchester Aviation Art Society meeting. I have now taken delivery of some prints from the
U.S.A. of a painting I completed mid 2002. This work depicts the low level raid
on the Romanian oil refineries at Ploesti during WW2. The prints I have are
signed by both Royden Lebrecht - the pilot of “The Squaw” - the main subject of
the painting, and myself. Some pictures of the painting with Royden and details
of costs to purchase a limited edition print can be seen here.
I am still working on a large (63" x
39") canvas for the same gentleman who commissioned the above painting. This was
originally intended to depict the action where Chuck Yeager in a P51 D Mustang
shot down five German aircraft in one action on the 12th October 1944 making him
an " Ace in a Day ". At the moment
things have come to a halt as I have only recently found out that Chuck Yeager
was flying a borrowed aircraft on that day and not his own machine “Glamorous
Glenn III”, the aircraft he is best known for. Lots more research required on
this one, although the chap who has commissioned the painting really wanted the
aircraft to be Yeager’s own so possibly the theme may be altered to show the
action when he was credited with four aircraft destroyed on the 27th
November 1944.
I
intend to submit three works for The Guild of Aviation Artists annual exhibition
this year. At the moment I am sketching out a few ideas but had better not wait
too long before I commit paint to canvas as handing in and selection is in
May!
