Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/25 16:50 A bit of a late decision to host a round in this years proxy series but as some of you may know the proposed wooden track at Earls Hall Park has been in the planning for several years but for all sorts of reasons has still to be built. I decided a couple of weeks ago to pull up my existing Ninco track and lay a different temporary circuit just for this round of the series.

I don't have fancy track design software so here is a diagram using pen and paper of the circuit. It is to scale.
The lap length is 48' 4". The start/finish straight is 9' 2" into a radius 3 180 degree right hander onto the main 14' 6" straight into a radius 3 right hander followed by a short straight into a radius 2 right hander, then the radius 4 right/radius 3 left handed esses back onto the strat/finish straight.
Not a very technical track but flowing and medium fast with a lap time I will guess of between 4.5 - 5.0 seconds for the F1 cars.

Once Alan and I have arranged the handover of the cars I will post more info and photos and a date for the race.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/25 18:05 Nice looking track David, should prove to be pretty fast.

I have sent you an email regarding handover.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/29 08:03 Just a quick update about Earls Hall Park.

I've now received most of the Ninco track borders from Pendles although I am still waiting on the final batch. I've renovated the pit buildings which were looking a bit tired. I've bought a lap timer/counter and I'm currently putting together some temporary scenery to hopefully make the track a bit more photogenic for the F1 proxy race (Homebase ceiling tiles are the exact thickness of the track to make infield areas).
I should have the cars in the next few days so with a bit more work over the weekend on the facilities I should be ready for some practice and a few pictures.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/29 09:29 david re the ceiling tiles I have used them on my track and Ive had problems with them breaking up on the corners when the cars slide out, but a good coat of pva makes them more durable and stops all the bits flying about

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/30 08:14 All the cars have arrived safe and sound at Earls Hall Park thanks to Alan's excellent parcelling skills and the Post Office. I've unpacked them and checked that they are all ok.
Some time over the weekend I'll give them all an initial run and let you know how they behave on my track.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/30 09:45 So glad they arrived...that was quick , as I only posted them yesterday around 10:00 AM, and at a very reasonable cost...Well done Royal Mail!.

I'm afraid there were a couple of breakages at my track....

Al's Ferguson, (that car has really been through it!), the main body mount has come away from the body. All the bits, weighting plates etc are in the bag, as are the motors.

Joel's Ferrari lost this drivers head, I fixed it back on but it could be a weak point, you also might want to replace the masking tape on Dave's car with Sellotape, (afraid I didn't have any).

The only other thing to do is modify Graham's car with the hammer as discussed.... .

Good luck with the race.

Regards

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/30 12:51 People moan about the Post Office but to post 14 cars across the country in 21 hours for £5 isn't bad is it.

I found John Surtees head floating around when I opened the box and I spotted Al's broken body mount which is easy to fix. I've had an email from Graham about Al's Ferguson and I've got the parts so I'll sit down later and see if I can fathom it out. While I'm at it I'll get my biggest mallet out to adjust Graham's BRM....

Anyway I couldn't resist getting the cars on track for a quick shakedown. Here are the first times recorded at Earls Hall Park.

1st BRM Graham 4.74 sec
2nd Ferrari Mac 4.90 sec
3rd Cooper Paul 4.93 sec
4th Ferrari Joel 4.98 sec
4th Ferrari David 4.98 sec
6th BRM Bryan 4.99 sec
7th BRP John 5.00 sec
8th Lola Jim 5.01 sec
9th Brabham Jay 5.03 sec
10th BRM Charlie 5.04 sec
11th Porsche Bill 5.08 sec
12th Lotus Alan 5.10 sec
13th BRM Dave 5.26 sec
14th Ferrari Alex 5.31 sec
15th Ferguson Al No Time

Also Practiced
Lotus 25B David 4.73 sec
Lotus 25 R1 David 5.29 sec

I hasten to add that I only drove 10 laps with each car so I didn't begin to get the hang of each car's individual handling characteristics and some of the cars will undoubtably get much quicker in "official" practice for the race. What is obvious that the cars of Graham and Mac are going to be hard to beat.

I'll update on the track improvements, Al's car and a race date as things firm up.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/08/30 13:32 Thanks for the smooth hand over Alan.

When I first saw your layout David I thought this might be a sweeping Graham beater sort of track Still, on first showing there doesn't seem much separating the rest of the pack.

Looking forward to the race day build up...

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/03 22:37 I've admitted defeat on repairing Al's Ferguson so Graham has kindly agreed to have a look at it, it will be winging its way North in a day or so and once it has returned I'll have the official practice session and the race.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/08 22:15 just a quick post to say Ive recieved als ferguson for repair and have got the rear pinion out allready ,the problem is the rear bush has a lot of play alowing the pinion to move up and down . I'll lengthen the shaft and add a rear support to it to stop this recurring so it should perfrm pretty well when it returns to David hopfully by the end of the week
