I'll complete the spreadsheet and post results this evening.

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/23 20:55 Great stuff Alan! The pictures here and on your website look fantastic.

From here on out who ever drives Graham's car must face away from the track and use a mirror to track the cars movement.

Congratulations Graham, you have what appears to be a very driveable rocket.

Where do the the cars travel to next?

Jay

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/23 21:23 Many thanks, Alan - no surprizes here except possibly the fact that my crippled clockworks nightmare actually finished (barely) ahead of another car. Out of curiosity - did you have time to swap out the motor and gearset for the new one i sent?

Thanks

Al

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/23 22:54 Many thank to Alan and Garry for the hard work ,I cant believe how well the BRM has gone this year I expect the rest of the feild will now give it a sound beating on the faster tracks as I know it will be at a disadvantage power wise .

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/23 23:35 Hi Al

Sorry I just didn't have time to do any swaps etc., but perhaps David can as the cars are going to him next. I did resolder the original motor to the rear bracket as it came loose, but it is a temp fix only. The problem still seems to be the twin "idler" pinions and the amount of movement. I can't really see a solution to that particular problem.

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/24 08:10 Alan the problem is that the pinion which drives the contrate is mounted in a ballbearing and it has a tendancy to tilt under braking locking the drive train what it needs is the pinion shaft extending rear wards and a suport fitting to the end of the shaft to keep this shaft parrallel to the other shafts . If this is done then the gear train will stay smooth and he car will then perform better , Im sure David will be able to sort this but if this isnt clear let me know and I'll do a diagram of what needs doing .It looks complicated but its quite siple when you see how it works

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/24 08:44 Alan and Gary

Thanks for the race and the results and once again congratulations to Graham for his hat trick. It would be nice to see a different winner at some point in the series.
Graham's car averaged 96.4% of it's qualifying speed throughout the race and mine only 83.4%...... must build a decent car next year.

Re:2008 Round Three Midford Combe - 2008/08/24 09:10 David I will be very surprised if my BRM has enough speed to keep up on the longer tracks .I ran the same motor/ gear set up in practice at wolves early birds in my lotus and it was around 1/2 a sec shy of being on the pace so unless every one else falls off then I would have to put money on bryan and charlie for the south end and wolves races , dont know about your track though can you give some details of what we have to expect
