Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/07 07:52 Many thanks to John and Frances for the hospitality ,great fun and no breakdowns ,thanks also to Bryan and Rico for joining in with the nights racing .
Despite its low finish EMs ferguson ran well just a little down on power as we had to change the motor along with the pinion and the replacment wasnt as quick as the original but the handling was superb with the available grip being as good as my winning BRM
My own favourite drive of the night was Jays Brabham which had it not thrown a tyre would have been on the podium

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/07 18:35 Round 2 and with Bill's Porsche and Mac's Ferrari both absent, the proxy cars were joined by EM's Ferguson to form up as a twelve car field:

Drivers on the night were Graham, Bryan, myself and Rico who was making his first visit to my track. As at Blackpool, Charlie handled race control and maintained the spread sheets enabling us to keep tabs on positions as the evening went on.

Each car ran four two minute heats and was driven once by each driver. Here then are all the results:

Cars are listed by owner and reading across the columns shows the number of laps recorded for the cars by each driver over the heats.

Graham's car was quick and consistent and took another comfortable win while second place was a close run thing between Bryan's BRM and my own BRP, Bryan edging it by a tenth of a lap over 8 minutes racing! Charlie's BRM ran a solid fourth with fifth a tie between Jay's Brabham and Paul's Cooper. As Graham said, Jay just lost a bit of time with that thrown tyre.

Jim's Lola is a great little car but didn't get to fully stretch it's legs on my short twisty track again finishing just outside of the points positions in seventh. Eighth was Alexis sharknose which had a solid outing. Next up were Joel and David's Ferraris. David's sharknose had a little too much grip and the narrow car had a tendency to dig in and tip dropping it down the field.

After all it's trials and tribulations EM's Ferguson came home a pleasing eleventh while Dave's BRM finished at the back despite a change of gear ratio using the parts kindly supplied by EM. The new ratio gives the car excellent acceleration and braking and, while it was much more driveable, I felt it could have benefited further had we had a little more set up time - a bit more weight up front might have helped.

Here then are some more pictures from the evening.

Jay's Brabham and Graham's BRM speed by with Joel's Ferrari, Dave's BRM, Jim's Lola and EM's Ferguson in the pit area:

Dave's BRM:

Jim's Lola and Al's Ferguson:

Graham's BRM on it's victory parade lap:

The paddock after the race with Paul's Cooper-Climax (14), Dave's "Stovepipe" BRM (11), Jim's Lola-Climax (18), Joel's Ferrari (21), Jay's Brabham-Climax (5), Al's Ferguson (7), Alexis' Ferrari (4).

Looking down the track from the paddock towards the pits:

Cars in the pit area here are Bryan's Scuderia Centro-Sud BRM, Joel's Ferrari, Charlie's BRM and my BRP.

There were no major breakages or failures during the meeting just some minor damage: Jim's gearbox came adrift and David's sharknose lost it's tailpipes. All fixed now.

All this leaves Graham in a dominant position in the table although Paul's car is proven on the upcoming long tracks at Southend and Wolves (where it should have a speed advantage over the BRM) and is well within striking distance:

Next round, Midford Combe

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/07 23:18 Great track, thanks Dave for the report and the photos, cheers to Graham his car seems unbeatable.
One thing i noticed my car seems to have suited Bryans driving style better(5th)but to suit not at all Ricos style (9th),any thoughts on this ?

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/08 08:28 Alexis both of the ferrari shark noses were a little tippy and unpredictable on some sections of Johns track tending to dig in and roll.
Also Bryan has more experience of the track than Rico .

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/08 14:33 Thanks so much John for your race report and photographs. I'll gloss over my pathetic performance with the Sharknose - one year I'll build a car that actually works...
The photographs are really atmospheric and illustrate what this race series is all about.
I've decided to run a round at Earls Hall Park this year even though the track isn't up to the standard of yours, Dave's and the SSRC circuits. Obviously while the cars are in Southend it will be easy to run the extra round.

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/08 16:52 Fabulous Race John and as always superb atmospheric photographs....

Great series so far guys, and I am really looking forward to hosting the next round at my Midford Combe Circuit...

John is due to drop the cars off on Wednesday so I look forward to not only seeing him and Charlie but also trying the hoarde out, and also adding my battered Lotus (from last years race) to the gaggle.

For those not familiar with my circuit, you can find details here :-

http://www.freewebs.com/atadd/mytrack.htm

Race will be run as an "against the clock" event, with (I hope) at least three drivers.

The event will be held during the third week of August.

Any questions or requests just ask away.

Regards

Alan

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/08 17:30 Thanks for posting the excellent report and photos John, I love the one of the cars in the paddock. As David says they are very atmospheric.
I think everyone had a great evening of racing which, thanks to John’s preparation and Charlie’s smooth race conrol went extremely well indeed.
I was very pleased with my second place finish. John seemed to get more out of that car than I thought possible. Thanks John!
My particular favourite of the race was Graham’s winning BRM which is basically the same car as he ran last year but a few clever mods to the chassis has completely transformed the handling. Its now almost un-deslottable on the corners. It takes a few laps to realise just how far you can push it! A deserving win. Well done Graham.
