Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/25 14:15 Hello John,

Thanks for the diagnosis. By all means, please do whatever the car seems to need. I'll continue to hope for the best.

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/25 18:09 John I think we all found daves car a handfull with the black motor giving it a great disavantage ,I think it would be sensible to down grade this to a silver can if its easily changeable as once it gets onto the longer tracks I cant see it returning undamaged the downgrade would also give it a better chance of scoring points . I know normaly we would say run as it is but it would be a shame to end with a scrap car for the want of the right motor .
If dave agrees I propose we change it before the next race I have a spare motor if required alturnatively a change of ratio to say 8-30 if it will fit may give it some brakes

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/25 19:18 I have one of the black can Scaley FF motors in a 4CLT that I built from one of Mac's kits. It is very quick and has good brakes but it is geared nearly 5:1 (48:10)! It uses an aluminum "drag" 64DP crown gear which will not, by the way, fit into either the BWA mini rear bracket nor the 3 piece one from AB Slotsports. I would try at least a 7:32 and it may even be possible to find a 6 tooth pinion to fit the 1/5 mm shaft.

As always, free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/26 16:58 a note from one who is constantly inspired!! Just a quick note to let everyone know how much I enjoy and draw knowledge form this forum and the pictures of all your fine work. Both the pictures and discussion has raised not only my knowledge level but my motovation to produce something else to compete on my track. I am off the tugboat for a couple of weeks and will try to post some pictures of my two lane track here in the Great Pacific North WET! (not a spelling error)
Thanks one and all!!!

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/26 23:03 Thanks for the replies and comments.

Graham, I agree a change of motor to Dave's car sounds like a good idea but unfortunately it is integral to the chassis which is bent from brass rod with no separate axle bracket. As for gearing, something could be done about the pinion but a crown change isn't straightforward as there are limited clearances with the suspension detail and shell. Not much room to manoeuvre

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/27 14:17 I'll have a look through my supplies. I believe that I have a 7 tooth 64DP 1.5 mm bore pinion and can make up one of the internal boss crown gears that I use - A 32 tooth 64DP gear is pretty small - and could send them along with my car for a potential change. This would provide a 4.5 : 1 ration which might help. The only caveat is that (I don't know what gearing the car currently uses) this set-up requires washers to space and center the crown - no shaft groove like the Scaly or Slot-it.

Re:Race Results: Round One - Blackpool - 2008/07/27 15:00 Thank you EM, that sounds workable. The current gearing is 2.4:1 (24T (green) Slot.It crown, 10T pinion) so your 4.5:1 will improve matters. Also, Dave uses brass tube bearings to position the gear so the omission of a centre channel would not be an issue.
