Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/18 18:26 My plan right now is to model Jim Hall's Lotus 18 at the 1961 USGP or Dan Gurney's Porsche 804 at the 1962 USGP.

Has anyone else decided what they intend to build?

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/18 19:29 I must admit Im tempted to re use the BRM but with my own chassis instead of the penelope pitlane one which I struggled with I have changed the motor in it and it seems much better .I also have a brabham up and running but in need of paint and a touch more horsepower although I can pedal this one round my circuit nearly 1/2 a second faster than any of my early birds but I know its down to horses for courses .

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/18 19:45 I am planning to do either John Surtees' Lola or Grahm Hill's BRM from the 1962 season. I haven't yet chosen which event livery to model.

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/19 01:00 I've been thinking about my car for this series and had narrowed it down to either a Dan Gurney Porsche or Graham Hill BRM but as Jim and Jay are also possibly doing those I will do something else to leave the field clear.
Instead of using one of my many Dave Jones shells I will use one of my Lotus 24 shells I made last year and I'll do a Trevor Taylor or Innes Ireland BRP version.

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/20 06:18 I've been working on a Porsche 804 for a similar proxy series in the states, and have hit a snag. I am hoping that someone here might know the answer.

It seems to me from the photos that I've seen of the car in 1962 French GP trim that there are no coil over shock absorbers. Can that be? Could the fact that the car used torsion bar suspension be the reason? Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/20 11:09 Hi Jim,

You are quite correct, there are no coil springs on the Porsche suspension, simply the Torsion bars.

One other thing. On my bodyshell (based on the Etienne Becker plans from Model Maker as it appeared at Monaco) you will see that I have (as per plan) only indicated the position of lower front radius arm position.

The suspension was modified later on to add the upper front radius arm so it is a question of checking the particular car in question that you model.

I am sending you ( by E-mail ) a scan of a contemporary cutaway drawing which shows it in the later form. This might help with details.

Regards.

Dave

Re:Cars for the 2008 event. - 2008/03/20 15:32 Thanks Dave,

I received the drawing and can easily see the suspension details. The 804 is surely an interesting car.

Regards,

Jim
