Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/13 11:19
Yep... those were the days. Looks like Moss had already painted the car grey. the photo I posted was from the same site/1958 GP (I was googling Jensen+250F). But do you notice that, by this stage, the car doesn't seem to have the extensive louvres? The photo on the 1957 GP program confirms this. However, the cover of the '56GP shows Bira's winner from the year before complete with louvres -- also a pretty nice colour scheme in Siam colours.
Also, how about the Connaught streamliner in the '56GP?!!! A rare photo there. That is the first racing car I can remember. I saw it race at Ryall Bush, near Invercargill (right at the bottom of the South Island) when I was six years old. I was fortunate that both of my parents were active car club members so I was taken to every motorsport event within four or five hours' drive of our home (right through until the mid 60s). My dad was actually one of the club members who was very (physically) involved in the building of Teretonga which became the site of all international races after Ryall Bush which was a closed-road course. Wish I still had the photos I took there with my Box Brownie!!! Particularly the converted (bigger motored) 1.5l GP cars. I even saw the Fergusson at Teretonga with Innes Ireland driving.
Cheers... Peter
