Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/13 10:49 Thanks for persevering with the photo Peter. Looking into the history of the car I stumbled across New Zealand Grand Prix 1954-1963:

Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/13 11:08 Hello Peter,

Thanks for persevering and posting the photo of the Maserati. As John said, those were the days.

I see that you are logged on at the moment so please do use the "Contact" facility which will prompt an E-mail to myself and we can take it from there via E-mail rather than on the forum.

Kindest regards

Dave

Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/13 11:19 Yep... those were the days. Looks like Moss had already painted the car grey. the photo I posted was from the same site/1958 GP (I was googling Jensen+250F). But do you notice that, by this stage, the car doesn't seem to have the extensive louvres? The photo on the 1957 GP program confirms this. However, the cover of the '56GP shows Bira's winner from the year before complete with louvres -- also a pretty nice colour scheme in Siam colours.

Also, how about the Connaught streamliner in the '56GP?!!! A rare photo there. That is the first racing car I can remember. I saw it race at Ryall Bush, near Invercargill (right at the bottom of the South Island) when I was six years old. I was fortunate that both of my parents were active car club members so I was taken to every motorsport event within four or five hours' drive of our home (right through until the mid 60s). My dad was actually one of the club members who was very (physically) involved in the building of Teretonga which became the site of all international races after Ryall Bush which was a closed-road course. Wish I still had the photos I took there with my Box Brownie!!! Particularly the converted (bigger motored) 1.5l GP cars. I even saw the Fergusson at Teretonga with Innes Ireland driving.

Cheers... Peter

I actually tried e-mailing you through the "Contact" facility yesterday. I just tried again so hopefully you'll get this one soon. If you don't get it, please let me know here.

Thanks again... Peter

Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/13 13:05 Peter, I think we all wish you still had those photos!

Regarding the 250F, I did notice the louvres but fortunately if you do ever model the car it's a lot easier to sand them off than put them on in the first place!

I think Bira's blue/yellow colour scheme would also make for an attractive model and I'm just wondering if I need another 250F shell from Dave

Incidentally, Charlie Fitzpatrick does a Connaught streamliner shell as part of his "Classic" fibreglass range so there is potential for you to build quite a grid.

Re:Scratchbuilt cars using Dave Jones' shells - 2007/07/15 12:36 Hi again,

Just e-mailed an order to Dave for some body shells and was again trawling the web for photos of the cars I want to build. In that process, I found a photo of what I’m pretty sure is the long-nose Lotus 18 that one of your 1.5L guys built. It looks like it has the scoop on the left side of the nose. I think I read that he had no photos of this car so I’m going to try to upload this one. I got it off a very comprehensive website called “The A-Z of Racing Cars” http://www.teamdan.com/archive/cars/cars.php

In case I don't get this posting correct here is the url to paste into your browsers.
