Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/12 12:42 Hi guys here are the results of the last meeting in the series.
As the International track had not been rubbered in we ran
on the Aldesley circuit, this produced something of a change
being a longer lenghth than others used.
Concours results = Al S = 14 points, David L = 7 points
Bryan K = 6 points, Jay H = 5 points, Paul E = 4 points
Jim H and John P = 3 points.
The Race results are as follows.
Alan T = 83.26 laps, Bryan K = 82.16, Charlie P = 80.25,
John P80.07, Jay H = 79.30, Bill C = 79.09, Graham W = 78.18,
Mac P = 77.78,
Paul E = 77.13, Joel T = 76.86, Al S = 74.04, David L = 72.08.
Jim H71.29,
Dave J = 69.64, Alexis = 67.07.
Some observations of the day.
After a run of good results Grahams car did not maintain this form,
As the circuit was longer than the one,s befor his car did not have the legs
and lost much time on the strieghts and big curves.
The suprize of the day was Al,s Fergusson, while giving the cars a service
befor the event i found his motor had frozen solid, with WD40 and a little
TLC it was up and running again.
In its first heat it came a close second then went on to win the next 2 heats
sadly in the 4th the crown gear began to slip loosing much time, with out
that setback it would have finnished very high in the standings,
but it did redeamed it,s self in the concours by taking twice as many points
as the next car, so Al after all the knocks and broooooozings you took
you finnished on a high.
The car on the day was Alan Tadd,s, being quick and stable and liked by all the
drivers, a worthy winner.
Ill take the cars to EB,s next month so you can pick up your charges there.
After John as done his maths with the results we will see how it all panned
out.
Thanks for a great series lads.
Cheers
Mac

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/13 04:03 What can I say - except that I am delighted! After all, what is a little slip of the pinion among friends? - Thanks to Graham's good offices, the P 99 actually led the way, if only for a while - and - carrying away a concourse win in this exalted company really makes the day for me - Thanks to Dave, Graham and Mac and all the rest who helped shuttle the broken bits around - I promise that if we do it again, I'll make do with a single gear set!

EM

P.S. I think that the frozen motor Mac noted and the slipped pinion are, in a way, related and I may have a single cure for both. I have had one or two other cases of motor lock-up that I think is related to the insidious spreading tendency of the acid flux that I use to solder steel. It appears that I am not getting it all off. I have been trying an alternate method suggested by the redoubtable Al Penrose (Mr. BWA) and using red Locktite on carefully cleaned and acetone rinsed parts instead of solder. Thus far, I have seen no failures up to and including applications using the Slot-It Boxer motor. The only downside is the need to wait for 12+ hours before subjecting the part to significant load.

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/15 13:20 Thanks very much to Mac for hosting the final round at Wolverhampton and for posting the race report/results.

My apologies for taking a couple of days to post the final standings (things have been a little hectic in the P household of late!) but here they are:

So, congratulations to Alan on his race win and of course to Graham, taking the title with an impressive string of wins in the first four events!

Kind regards
John

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/15 16:43 Thanks everyone for a great series.

How can I arrange to get my car back? I don't remember if I included return postage when I sent my car to England. I'll be glad to send it now if I didn't. Just let me know where to send it.

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/16 07:43 Thanks for the report on the last race Mac and it was great to see a new winner, well done Alan. Thank you John for compiling the final standings.

The concours result still needs to be worked out and posted here, I assume Dave has all the scores prior to the last round at Wolves.

Thanks to everyone for entering and to all the proxy drivers who have taken care of the cars while they have been entrusted with them at the various races.

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/16 22:07 apologies accepted alan I glad some one eventualy built a car to beat the brm ,but I always new it would be out classed on the faster tracks I might just have to upgrade the motor for bills november race and see how it fares then .
I must say Ive really enjoyed the series this time not because of the result but because it gives the chance to drive such great cars from around the world .My favourite has to be Als ferguson with its complex drive train I'm sure with a little development It could come back and be a winner
Thanks to Dave and John for setting this up ,hopefully it will continue in 2009/10 and give all chance to do battle again .

Re:last round of 1-1/2 ltr - 2009/01/26 14:44 Well done gentlemen. Congrats to Graham on a dominating car, to Alan for snagging a win, and to Al, David, and Bryan for beautiful workmanship.

I would really like to see this continue so hopefully we'll start things back up this summer.

Graham, if you need any return info just let me know.

Jay
