Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/10 10:13 David, thanks for the pictures and what a fantastic job putting a nice period layout together in such a short space of time. My BRP-BRM is curiously inconsistent but as 13th is only 0.2s off a podium perhaps all is not so bad!

As an aside, peterjon I am not sure what will be happening as regards the proxy next year but under current rules the SCX Rally motor is not eligible:

"Motors will be resticted to slimline types such as the Scalextric MotoGP/FF (any rpm), Beardog, Go! or similar."

Just a suggestion, some of the motors are so small (the Go! for example) that you could perhaps use two back to back.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/10 21:33 Als fergy is once again a runner Ive repaired the gear box and replaced the motor and it runs great ,a little noisy but thats part of its charm , Ive given it a good run tonight and mnaged to get a 7.5 sec lap from it on my track which is pretty good round my track for this style of car my 1.5 litre brabham is on a similar pace so hopefully it will now be able to do the buisness at davids track .I'll get it back in the post to David on friday as I still have a small repair on the rear suspension detail to do .
Al I resisted the temptation to up the power as it may put too much strain on the gear box.I would probably have used a 48 pitch gear if Id constucted this type of transmission for a "more forgiving " mesh

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/11 01:29 Beautiful work, Graham - I can't imagine how you managed to solder on the extension without all of the suspension bits coming adrift - my hat's off to you. I see that you also installed the replacement crown gear that i sent - that should help. It has much less radial run-out than the original as well as a better placement of the grub screw to aid in tightening down. (I learned, the hard way, that drilling out the center of a gear to fit a new hub really does not work. One needs to drill out a rough opening and then finish it with a boring bar)

Probably a good decision to stick with the All Electronics motor. It might give up a bit of top end but is very smooth in the bends and one "off" can negate a lot of blistering straights!

Avanti!

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/11 17:31 Als car is parceled and ready to go back to David . I gave it another run today and knocked another 2 tenths off the time turning in a middle 7.3 which is great and accualy quicker than my bizarini which I know some of you wolves attenders will know how quick that was.Ifound it best to grease the gear train to keep the noise down and I also varnished the front tyres to stop it digging in , I tried adding some weight to the underside but it didnt make much difference maybe on your track david it may a small amount in the motor recess may help it go deeper into the corner when braking .
Peterjohn the picture posting is quite easy just go to where it says browse at the bottom of the page click it and go to where your pics are saved on your computer select a pic and click open if it doesnt work it may be your pics are too big then youll have to reduce them in size to post them .

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/11 18:13 I've edited my post of the practice session from Tuesday night adding Dave's BRM to the list of times having sorted it and practiced it just now. It turned a creditable 4.97sec and so was joint 11th fastest in the middle of that bunch of cars separated by a fraction of a second.
The car is a lively performer with no real vices although it can deslot in the esses when asked to change direction a bit quickly.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/11 21:50 Great stuff David. For a track that sounded like it was being thrown together for the race, the paddock looks fantastic with all the cars pictured.

Now if you could just package up my car and send it "royal mail" to Graham for a little extra tuning that would be great.

A little off topic, but now is as good a time as any. Would you guys consider running a round next year in the good ole USA? I realize it's a bit of a logistics problem but just something to consider.

The cars would run at Grand Loop Raceway Park, a 50 foot painted Ninco track.

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/12 18:21 There's nothing wrong with your Brabham Jay, it has a lovely look about it really capturing the original car and it goes very well. I actually gave it ten laps just now and clocked a best lap of 4.76sec so it was a bit quicker than the other night - as a comparison I then gave Graham's rapid BRM ten laps and managed a 4.53sec. Both cars were therefore a tenth or so quicker than the other night so maybe track conditions were a bit better today. Whatever, you have built a car that is only 0.20sec slower than Graham's so I would be very pleased with that!!

On a different subject what paint have you used to paint your Ninco track grey?

Re:Round 4 Earls Hall Park - 2008/09/12 19:48 Jay your brabham is an excelent car Im sure it will have the legs on my brm once it gets on the longer tracks I would expect to see it get a podium finish on one if not all of the remaining tracks it has every thing a proxy car needs being reliable and very easy to drive
Als car went in the post this morning so wit any luck you may have it in the morning David
