tyres - 2008/03/17 17:30 The control tyre was just an idea but ill
go along with what ever you thinks best.
Iv spoken to Colin Spark about the new compound,
he said that tyre makers can not use certain
chemicals these days thats why its changed.
having done some back to back tests, he said
there was almost no differance between the two,
the only thing you will notice is that the dust after
trueing is blue in color.
the tyre numbers are 28c and 28 m.
cheers
Mac

Re:tyres - 2008/03/17 21:25 Hi Mac,

Many thanks for the information regarding which Ortmanns to use.

As I tend to only use them on the rears it looks like I need some 28m type.

Just as an side, I have noticed that some (a lot of ? ) people also seem to run Ortmanns on the fronts.

I have always gone for a simple hard rubber tyre for the fronts on my cars on the perhaps too simplistic basis that they don't do much other than keeping the nose of the car off the track

Can anyone explain the thinking behind using relatively soft fronts or have I been doing it all wrong for over forty years ?

Regards.

Dave

Re:tyres - 2008/03/19 12:30 Hi Dave,
Far be it from me to advise a 'time served' racer as yourself, but my take on this would simply be that the Ortmanns fit!
I have used Scalex F1 tyres with a suitable coat of nail varnish, and they seem to work fine.
You certainly don't want any front end grip, so if using Ortmanns or soft compound tyres, then some form of coating on them is a must ( some racers use a coat of super glue, instead of nail varnish)
Kind Regards Bill.

Re:tyres - 2008/08/13 14:43 to johndjones. i was thinking front tyres would benifit from independant front axles so as to llow the front wheels to roll through a corner and not dig in causing the car to ride up the slot and fall off. reguards to yourself peterjon.

Re:tyres - 2008/08/13 19:38 peterjon, independant wheels are a definate advantage all my cars are built in this way , along with a friction reducing coating gives a noticable performance increase
