Re:Soldering Irons - 2008/03/20 11:29 Hi Eric,

From my point of view I have found that for general chassis work a 75 Watt Iron is sufficient for most needs although if you are thinking of soldering relatively heavy gauge Brass sheet you might need to go higher in terms of the Wattage.

Mind you, only rarely do I solder anything other than thin gauge chassis tubes.

I am sure that someone else will come along with their own thoughts but, for now, I hope that this helps.

Regards.

Dave

Re:Soldering Irons - 2008/03/20 12:21 my current wepon of choice is an antex 100watt this has quite a fine tip and works well on thin plate , I prefer the weller 75watt as it has a large tip which holds the heat but mine is currently in need of a new tip if I can ever get the old one out .
For thick plate I use a small gas torch .
