Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/29 20:28 hi jay, well thank you kind sir! you are not wrong jay i am mad keen ,especially after getting all fired up read all the posts and studying all the photos.alas all i have left from my racing days is my trusty Cox controller and an airfix/Mrrc BRM. what controllers are you guys usingthese days? i have ordered a Slot-It all singing all dancing controller from Pendle slot but tony and nick say i have to wait for the digital version. could be another thread in the making here,i am very anxious to get building again due to a lack of shells.sad story is,nt it. and due to being an absolute dumbo on my lap-top i have so far failed to make contact with a local club or mac pinches(cue violins) all in all jay not very satisfactory at all and very frustrating. still i will keep trying.you can put the tissues away now jay i,ve finished.peterjon

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/29 21:01 my current controller is a tru speed custom pulse width built on an scd rthym stick does every thing but make tea. I would sugest if you are used to a thumb handle then the current crop of parma clones including the slot it will feel a bit odd the tru speed is a bit expensive at £175 plus the cost of an scd handle but its the only controller youll ever need , Comments Ive heard on the slot it are mixed but its well made and reasonably priced .Prior to buying the tru speed I always built my own transistor or diode type

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/08/30 00:09 I currently use two controllers, I'm trying to come to terms with the new Slot it controller, very adjustable, but I'm having trouble using it with magnet cars. Most of what I drive are no-mag so not a big issue. I also use the Professor Motor controller with adjustable brakes and sensitivity. Both are very good, not a true speed which I would love to try, but very capable. I lean toward the Slot it.

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/09/02 13:18 After investing in a Truspeed controler iv had mixed results, most people iv spoken to
say they are pleased with there,s but in practice im not too sure it suits my driving.
It has the usuale 5 pot adjustments plus the 3 binary switch update.
Iv used it for a little while, at the club and two open meetings, with motors from slot it.scale auto and that range iv never been totaly sure or confident im getting the best out of it,
but with a Euro 1 motor i found the adjustments do play a part in getting good performance
from it.
The three binary switches do seem to give a better feel to the car, these change the profile
of the power curve and dose make a diferance.
At club level iv found that a car that produced low 7 second laps with my old set up is 3 or 4 tenths shy when using the newer one, at Oalands park and Netley i was never in the hunt,
and knew the cars where better than the results i obtained.
With the SWB sports proxy event a Wolves i used my old MRRC/Mckie controler and put in
the fastest lap plus posting the most laps in any heat.
My thoughts? dose the newer set up suit me or is it a case of "the kings new cloths" or as
Graham sdjests i may need more time to adjust to the new one, is it a case of a loss of
time with the new one, but when iv got the hang of it will it only elevate me to where i
stand with the older set up.
I think ill go back to the first Scaley on/off push buttom system, that way i wont have to think too deaply !!!!

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/09/04 15:52 hi mac, your post was quite the longest yov,e done on this forum. but you have raised some issues with a change of hand controllers.this miserable "rabbit" has been worried about after ordering the new slot-it piece of kit. the price is right. what,s not very clear is with all it,s up dated technology do you as a driver have to modify your drivind style to get the best out of a known cars performance. i would humbly suggest that you stick with the MRRC unit as you know this will provide results. untill such times that you have rung out all the foibles of the new unit! after all you were a graded driver back in 1965 at the walsall club.it,s the controller mate! electric technology has moved on in forty odd years it is not all things to all men and will automatically give you the "edge"but for a "rabbit"like me it may just be.peterjon.

Re:Round 2 Race Results - The Valley Raceway - 2008/09/23 03:02 Actual points scored! I am ecstatic. All credit to Graham's rescue (and to my other friends who found the time to enrich Her Majesty's Post by shipping my erstwhile "kit car" thither and yon).

While under normal circumstances I would have been happy to move up a spot, in this case, I am very content with the results. It would have been the grossest sort of poetic injustice had Graham's good offices resulted in such an outcome.

I am really enjoying this - all the pleasure of building the car, all the excitement of the races without the nail-biting anxiety of wondering when my own lame driving is going to make a mess of it.

(actually hoping for a better result in our local series this year - had successful lens replacement cataract surgery this summer and I can now actually follow a car all the way around a track without multiple re-focusings through tri-focal glasses)

On to the next round
