Re:Wolverhampton Open Meeting Cars - 2008/05/14 17:12 I built two cars for the 2008 Wolverhampton pre 63 LeMans sports car meeting.

This Scarab used a resin shell that Joel Thura reworked and produced from an old Autohobbies vacform. I built an offset motored piano wire and brass chassis with rattle pan and a flexi front end copying ideas from Graham Windle and others. The car hadn't turned a wheel until it arrived at Wolves and Paul Elliott had never seen it but he managed an excellent 6th place and but for being taken off a couple of times in his heats he probably would have made the A final.

The other car was this 1952 Le Mans winning Mercedes 300SL

It is a resin recast bodyshell on a PCS chassis which frankly I couldn't get to work very well and it finished midfield. In future I'll stick to building my own chassis.

Re:Wolverhampton Open Meeting Cars - 2009/05/21 06:55 For the 2009 Wolverhampton SCCA - Can Am pre 1968 race meeting I built this Ferrari 330P

The car used a MRRC 275 bodyshell which I modified by removing the original roll hoop and replaced with a US spec roll over bar. I also flared the rear body vents and added other scoops and vents. The original windscreen was also replaced with a smaller vac formed item. Decals from my spares box finished it off. The slot car represents the 1965 Sebring car that Graham Hill shared with Pedro Rodriguez.

As the motor was "offsong" at Wolverhampton I shelved the car for the race and used the Scarab again. There will be a future meeting where I'll be able to race the Ferrari.
